Please, oh please. Tell me I’m dreaming. In the nightmare from which I’ve yet to awake, I read that someone intends to build a theme park in Rome. It simply can’t be true can it? Well, yes it according to TripStar. Where are they going to put it? Maybe beside the 312BC Appain Way (pictured).

You have to wonder what on earth the authorities are thinking of. Friends, Romans, Italians…exercise some sense! If there’s one place in the world that doesn’t need explaining,
Rome is it. And seriously, where
will they find a spare 500 hectares? My hope is that the land will prove to be their downfall, one way or another. Because, even if they do find a suitable site, it’s highly likely that they’ll also find buried antiquities the moment they begin their excavations. And what’ll they do then…?
By the way, I’m not anti-theme parks. I've been to plenty of them. Theme parks are heaps of fun, and definitely have their place in the world. But, somehow, theme parks and Rome aren't a comfy fit. Feel free to disagree. And maybe I'll have to eat my words when, a few years from now, some location outside the Eternal City is buzzing with happy tourists. Oh, what a thought.
