London, NYC and Paris - Airport Transfers

jfkAirport transfers are not pretty things. Either you’re dog tired and disgruntled from the trip itself, or you’re stressed to the gills about catching your plane. And if you’re not, you’re superhuman!

Where these horrible little journeys are concerned, probably the two most fraught places in the world are London and New York. That’s been my experience, anyway: fraught, fraught, fraught. The third is Paris. I’ve had max-stress transfers in all of these cities; experiences that probably scarred me for life.

What made me think of this – and remember a particularly bad airport transfer in New York – was this post on Gadling. For more information on transfers from the city's three co-terminals, go straight to the the fab FlyerGuide Wiki.

Similarly, if you’re flying into any of the London airports (Heathrow, Gatwick, Standstead and so on), have a look at the Londontoolkit.com site for transfer information. It'll tell you all you need to know, and give you some very helpful hints.

cdgParis has excellent rail and bus transfers for arriving and departing flyers from both Charles de Gaulle-Roissy (pictured right) and Orly airports, although you wouldn't know it if you travelled with me. Take a look on Angloinfo for advice. I intend to do so myself, because it’s obvious I need help. I nearly missed a plane in Paris, not just once but twice. And I did miss a London-bound train. Maybe I just don’t want to leave the place...

I agree.  New York airport transfers can be daunting.  The best method is to pre-arrange the transfer before leaving home and have a car and driver waiting for you upon arrival.  It is a little more expensive, but well worth it after a long and tiring trip.
