Look, I haven’t become obsessed with New Zealand. You have to believe me. It’s just that New Zealand has been dogging my blogging in a very persistent way. To be frank, I'm feeling miffed with the place. This could have something to do with discovering that Milford Sound was voted the world’s No.1 travel destination, with Queenstown at No.2. However, I’m an Aussie, and Aussies are known for magnanimity. Especially when we’re up against the Kiwis. Everyone knows that.

So, I’m here to report that the world’s second-most-popular destination, Queenstown will be holding its annual Winter festival soon. And, to provide further evidence of my even-handedness, I’ll admit to discovering this fact on the Kiwi travel site Tripstar. Well, okay. It sounds like fun. I’m tempted to go. The dates of the Winter festival are 27 June to 6 July.
And I’ll admit this too: Queenstown is a fantastic place. Those mountains. That lake. That air. That swing.
Swing? Oh, didn’t I tell you? Well, as you know, everyone who goes anywhere near Queenstown seems compelled to throw themselves off something high. The photo on the right is typical. And now there’s a new way of doing it... marginally more relaxing than bungy, perhaps? There are ten different “jump styles” available on the Shotover Canon Swing, (the mind boggles) with varying degrees of scariness.

See you again soon: I'm off to have a slice of pavlova. Meanwhile, keep your eyes peeled for something altogether different. And here’s a hint. There are only 200 and something days till Christmas…think on.
