Oh, boy. Am I going to harangue you today. Apologies in advance, but this really needs to be said. Here goes ...
Sadly, very sadly, I’m not a planning sort of person. When it comes to travel, especially in countries I like to think I know quite well (the UK and France) I often barge in like a bull at a gate. Alarm bells ring, but I seldom hear them. This is NOT a recommended way of doing things; it’s completely wrong. I get lost. I get angry. I miss trains. I dither at intersections. I am not nice to know.
Sometimes, I do my homework in advance. I plan and book. Without exception, these trips are the successful ones. So, I’m turning over a new leaf. Next time I leave Australia, I’m going to be planned to the hilt.

I'm heading to UK and France, and I'll be able to sort out the framework of my journey in advance, with my fingertips, because I’ve stumbled on a truly brilliant travel site. This is a place that isn’t just hard-sell; it’s a treasure-trove of ideas, and it’s backed by both VisitBritain and the French Tourist Bureau, Maison de la France. It allows you to discover, plan and book the kind of travel experience you want, rather than someone else’s idea of what you want. And it leaves scope for the spontaneous. Yes, yes. I’m beginning to sound hard-sell myself. It's just that I find this Expedia microsite - A Taste of Britain & France very, very exciting. If you’re going to either of those countries, check it out immediately.
And wait, there’s more: not only is it an ab-fab way to book, it offers you the chance to win – yes, win – a trip to the UK and France! For two people! Get on to it NOW!
The thing about the UK and France is the frightening number of “must-sees”. If you’re not careful, you’ll miss out on something priceless (the chateau on the right, for example) through sheer lack of knowledge. This is the sort of thing that used to happen to me, thanks to nil planning. Don’t let it happen to you.
So. To plan or not to plan. That isn't the question. The question is: do you want a really great UK/France trip?
