Ten days in Sydney is not long enough to truly discover the bargains to be had, but some friends and I did our best to scour the city in search of discount fashion and a bit of mad souvenir hunting.
- Paddy's Market – Loaded with knock-off handbags and stuffed wombat souvenirs, but still really fun to roam. Those funny little koala clip 12-packs were quite the steal. If you need to have something for a coworker that says “Hey, I was in Sydney and noooo I didn’t forget you!”– that’s $2 well spent.
- DFS Galleria at the Rocks – Duty free and not at an airport? We had to check this out. High-end products at high-end prices, though duty and tax-free. Still, it was nice to be able to browse without feeling as rushed as one normally does while en route to flights.
- Birkenhead Factory Outlet – Can’t beat an outlet mall just off a marina. We especially loved French Connection, Alannah Hill Final Clearance, and David Jones.
- Chinatown – We wandered the area and the adjacent streets and purchased some inexpensive party girl attire, then some faux Versace sunglasses for the lads. Best described as short-term wear. Found some wonderful herbal teas as well.
- Paddington Market – Hitting this spot on a Saturday was perfection. Stall after stall of clothing, artwork, handmade jewellery, and other varied goods. Close enough to also wander down the not-so-bargain-centric Oxford Street.
We will no doubt be back in Sydney soon and would love any tips on bargain shoppes we missed! In the meantime, we will just have to hang out until we find some cheap flights to Sydney.
