Oh, oh, OH. I've just read a fascinating piece of research. It uncovers Aussies as a nation of potential T-cheats. T-cheats stands for travel cheats: need I say more? Yes, a whopping quarter of our partners feel quite relaxed about cheating on us when they're away from home.
The survey was conducted by online travel site Expedia, and contains a heap of interesting info (like the fact that we should be especially wary if our beloved embarks alone on a trip to France, Brazil or Italy - the three most tempting countries in the world!).
But before you explode, remember this: while a quarter of Aussies might well be travel-cheats, an encouraging three-quarters are not... your partner is probably planning a Valentine's Day surprise for you right now...
Which reminds me, I've been mulling the world's most romantic Valentine's Day destinations. My personal top dozen (yup, heavy on the moonlight) are:
-
Paris - preferably by the starlit banks of the Seine, though I'm tempted by some of the alternatives on
Gridskipper.
-
A midnight visit to Aventine, one of Rome's seven hills, and an unforgettable view of St Peter's through the ancient Knights Templar keyhole.
-
The Taj Mahal by moonlight - easier said than done! More on that at a later date.
-
Rothenburg on Germany's dream-like Romantic Road.
-
Venice (sigh)
-
Any people-free, white sandy beach, anywhere in Oz
-
Snowbound in a cosy Stockholm hotel
-
Watching daybreak over the Nile in Cairo, followed by a gallop through the sands at Giza on a grey Arab horse.
-
The banks of the River Tay on a sunny, frosty February morning (check out the very,
very atypical
Hilton in Dunkeld for this one.
-
Dinner and a tango in tantalising Buenos Aires
-
Gourmet dinner on the hopelessly romantic Orient Express. Yes, it's possible, and if the entire trip from Paris to Venice is beyond you, this really is the next best thing.
-
Oh well, okay. A candlelit dinner at home.
Okay, any takers? Or any further suggestions?
Oops - just thought of somewhere else. The most obvious Valentine's Day destination in the world has to be Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet!
Oh well, dream on. Most of us aren't made of money, and there are plenty of seriously cool Valentine's Day opportunities right on our Aussie doorsteps. Try booking a
Valentine's Day Hotel from Expedia.
Not as exotic, I know, but that doesn't rule out romantic!
